Sandra Denton is a doctor in Alaska with a disturbing history. In the early 90s, Denton was the medical director of the Huggins Center, where the notorious quack dentist Hal Huggins used “deceptive yet seductive advertising” to prey on patients. Huggins’s dental license was eventually revoked, but it took years for it to happen.
After complaints from two patients of the Huggins Center, the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners was prepared to bring formal charges against Denton. However, in lieu of a formal disciplinary hearing, Denton surrendered her license to practice medicine in Colorado.
Somehow, Denton ended up in Anchorage, Alaska, where she operates Alaska Alternative Medicine. She is a member of many pseudoscience groups, including American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), The Institute For Functional Medicine (IFM), as well as ILADS.
The ticks that carry Lyme disease are not present in Alaska, but that hasn’t stopped Denton from claiming to specialize in Lyme disease treatment. She advertises bizarre treatments, including chelation, ozone therapy, and ultraviolet blood irradiation.
Denton’s web site also features an anti-vaccine article that fear mongers about “toxicity of vaccines.”
